There is nothing God cannot do. When I first met this child, I told myself, "The prognosis is poor. Skills and knowledge can be taught. I cannot give to any child a good heart." My assessment of this child was: a cruel and unkind heart. I did offer to the parents a chance to withdraw the child. This is actually my way of asking God if He really wants me to take on the child. The parents and child chose to stay. So, I got to work, even though I had no confidence.
Somehow, it worked. This child's heart changed. She became kinder and gentler. She stopped bullying others. She began to make and keep friends in school. Her teachers began to praise her for her kindness. The child herself began to see herself differently, and to enjoy the social acceptance that rose all around her.
Many children have come through the centre. The amount of gratitude that comes back to us is in inverse proportion to how difficult the case was when he/she started. This child started from such a low base that the resultant gratitude levels are very high.
Even I was amazed that we succeeded. I really did not think it was possible.
