“...(My daughter) ran for assistant monitor in her Sec 1 class this year. She wanted to be the assistant monitor because she was keen on its treasury function, so she told her friends not to vote for her for monitor.

She confided that it was really tiring to lead the class but she could always get the tasks done with some extra effort. At year-end, she was almost unanimously chosen by her classmates to receive the school’s Star Award, i.e., the student who contributed most to the class. When she brought home her award, I couldn't help but wonder if she would be the person she is now if she had not attended your class.”

“At school, teachers have commented that she is able to lead in gentle ways. At home, we’ve noticed that when she’s playing with her younger cousins, she is very patient and willing to explain to them the game rules, etc. She’s also trying to use kind ways to influence her younger sister rather than commanding her.

As we are nearing the high-stakes PSLE exam, things do get a bit stressful at home. Luckily, we apply Dr Pet’s advice that what our child really needs is lots of love and no scolding. With a loving family environment, I believe she can sense that we are working as a team to achieve her PSLE goals.”

“It was almost like putting a microscope to look at the flaws of the child, and for her to look at herself in that state. Although it took us more than a few months to work through the challenges, I was very surprised that she didn’t want to quit. Over time, I noticed a radical change in her behaviour. She was less abrasive and developed more empathy.”

“Using the techniques that Dr Pet taught—such as finding something to praise or acknowledging that the work is hard—he has managed to work well with his classmates. In fact, there was once he even said that he managed to raise the morale of his group! He is now aiming to get a leadership position in his journalism club.”

“Thank you for moulding her thought processes, recognising her strengths and building them up. She was in the best class in a neighbourhood school, and when she was in Sec 3, she became president of her niche CCA in school. She was with you for 2 years but you’ve played a big part in her life. She grew so much in skills, perception, and mindset. You may not realise it, but the impact you made on her sustains till today.”

“Dr Pet is a wonderful source of wisdom. My son now interacts well with his peers. He was Chairman for Year 1, takes part in 3 CCAs and is running for Exco for one of them. He is thriving and is very happy in his school.”

“In class, my child tends to fade into the background by not speaking up and not looking others in the eye. When he first tried to lead, the other children in the group would ignore him. After attending Dr Pet’s class, my child became a more competent leader, so much so that peers in the class would choose him to lead them.

Gains have also been seen outside class. While initially my child tends not to give clear instructions, he recently demonstrated patience and communication skills in teaching a younger sibling and a younger friend how to solve the Rubik’s cube.

Dr Pet’s impact on our home life has been immense. Through coaching, she made me aware of how my own upbringing influenced my parenting style and identified destructive patterns in my parenting. Once I understood her strategies for a particular problem, I found I could apply them to other situations as they came up.

My days now run a lot smoother. My kids show great responsibility in completing their work. Play time proceeds harmoniously because disagreements between them are handled amicably. They willingly share their hurts and disappointments with me and we are closer than ever. I’ve also noticed that my older child has developed an air of maturity and a quiet confidence.”

“I thank God for sending you to guide me in my parenting journey with (my son). Both of us have gained tons through working with you.

The last couple of months have not been easy. I could not have pulled through without the strategies that you taught us. We had to deal with DSA disappointments, emotional effects of hormonal changes, and PSLE stress. However, I am grateful that we have come this far and (my son) is now able to face PSLE with a happy and relaxed spirit.”

“One cannot over-emphasise the importance of EQ development, yet few can claim that they know how to teach it. Dr Pet is one of the rare talents who can diagnose the issues, and identify the right "mental muscle" to work on. It's a journey that requires one to be honest and courageous.

I particularly appreciate Dr Pet's direct and efficient approach. She truly understands the importance of details to exact the remedies with the right degree of treatment, yet she always tells it as it is. We wasted no time guessing or on trial-and-error.

EQ is not to mould a well-mannered child and take away all the fun and passion. Instead, it has given my child the freedom to be herself, and created the support structures for her to pursue her dreams.”

Mother of a pair of twins from Nanyang Primary
"I have a pair of twins who both attended Dr Pet’s class for 2.5 years. Both twins have different personalities and Dr Pet helped me recognise their differences and coached me to teach them how to work together, instead of competing against each other. This has strengthened their bond, built their confidence, and also developed them to better meet their potential.

As children are given the opportunity to work in small groups, they learned teamwork and leadership skills. They have to brainstorm together, hear each other’s opinions, and then present to the class, thus building public speaking skills in a safe setting. The positive learning environment has also helped build friendships with students from other schools, which have continued even at secondary school level.

The children also have to take ownership of their own learning, as they work through their compositions every week. They will learn more and faster if they take ownership of their own learning, but will move slower if they choose to just ‘do the minimum’. This teaching has taught them to be more independent and also allowed them to appreciate that hard work rewards.

Overall, I am very grateful to Dr Pet for her coaching and teaching and my children only have good things to say about the class. They were very sad when they had to say goodbye.
